Hillsboro Courthouse Square

The first Monday of each month was “Trade Day” at the courthouse square in Hillsboro. People would come from all over the county to buy and sell goods as well as to socialize. On those Mondays, the square was truly festive.
Farmers selling goods from their wagons would tie their livestock right onto the courthouse fence… and trade would commence. The most popular spot was on the east side next to the horse trough.
