Harrel's Kingsville Pharmacy
In 1916, Nick Harrel Sr. opened a drug store on Kleberg Avenue in downtown Kingsville. By the 1920s, he had added a soda fountain with curb service, and indoor seats for 25 people.
Since then, three generations of Harrels have owned and operated the pharmacy which still maintains a soda fountain, although the demands of popularity mean that guests today will observe seating for 75.
In addition to standard diner fare (a cheeseburger for only $4!), diners can also try the weekly carne guisada special or a plate of enchiladas for less than $5. The soda fountain sells ice cream and homemade desserts like purple velvet cake, cinnamon roll cake, and the Mexican favorite, capirotada.
