Big Spring’s Hangar 25 Air Museum has a good deal of something for both military and architecture enthusiasts. This collection of memorabilia tells the story of the Big Spring Army Air Force Bombardier School and Webb Air Force Base through exhibits and programs, all taking place within a beautifully restored World War II brick and metal airplane hangar. May, 1942 brought the U.S. Army Air Force to Big Spring, specifically to a plateau above the community where the construction of a military installation began. The installation, once completed, provided training to aviation cadets in high altitude precision bombing.

Today, the restored hangar features the actual aircraft used in training and detailed information about the training process, history, and abilities of each craft. The museum’s programs highlight a community spirit, promoting Veteran of the Month where local veterans are honored and given a chance to share their stories, an FAA Young Eagles Program designed to encourage interest in flight training by offering young people between 8 and 17 a chance to experience the thrill of flight (for free), and the Kid’s Klub Summer Workshop, a hands-on, history-based program for youngsters. The museum maintains regular hours and admission is free.
