Located on the Odessa College campus, The Globe is an uncanny replica of the London's Globe Theatre of Shakespearean fame, with a writers' garden on the grounds. The vision for reconstructing a Shakespearean theater in Odessa began in 1948 as a project in a senior English class at Odessa High School for the OHS Shakespeare Club. It wasn't until the 1960s when this first vision came to fruition and the theater was constructed on the grounds of Odessa College.
It is a fully operational theatre with a season of plays from February through November, including contemporary comedy and drama, musicals, plays for youth and of course Shakespeare. For eight weeks in August and September, it becomes the home of the professional Southwest Shakespeare Festival: three productions in rotation, green shows, and other events. The Globe also hosts the Brand New Opree the first Saturday of every month with live musical performances.
