General Mercantile and Oldtime String Shop
If you happen to find yourself in Nacogdoches on a Saturday afternoon, be sure to stop by the old time acoustic jam session outside this general store and music repair shop, a nearly fifty-year-old tradition. The building is over 100 years old and was once the site of Stone’s Cafe, where Bonnie Parker worked before joining up with Clyde Barrow. The original owner opened the Oldtime String Shop in 1978 but converted the space back into a general mercantile around 1990 after he learned that the building once housed one. Since that time, they have carried a vast array of hard-to-find oldtime merchandise, including acoustic musical instruments, housewares, toys, and clothing.
And if you happen to have a banjo in need of repair, the Oldtime String Shop is still in the business of repairing and building acoustic stringed instruments!
