Frontera Audubon Center
Frontera Audubon Society is dedicated to preserving the native habitat of the Rio Grande Valley. Visitors will enjoy our downtown Weslaco urban nature preserve. Birds, butterflies, snakes and reptiles inhabit the site's 15 acre native Tamaulipan thornscrub, wetlands, and butterfly gardens. Also located on the site is the former home of C.L. "Lester" and Florence R. Skaggs, pioneer Weslaco bankers and citrus growers, it was one of the first Weslaco homes built according to architectural plans in the Spanish Revival style. The Skaggs House is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and is used for art exhibitions.
