Fort Parker State Park sits near the paths of both the Old Spanish Trail and El Camino Real de los Tejas, which merged into what was known as the "Old San Antonio Trail." Buffalo Soldiers, especially the 9th and 10th Cavalry, protected these key arteries of travel and communication. Their patrols ensured the safe passage of mail, military supplies, and civilian families traveling between forts and major cities like San Antonio. The park is known for its beautiful sunsets and historic structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Enjoy the river or lake for fishing, swimming, and paddling, as well as seven miles of trails for hiking and biking.
