Fort Martin Scott State Historic Site
Hill Country Trail Region
Built along the green banks of Baron’s Creek in Fredericksburg, Texas, Fort Martin Scott operated from 1848 to 1853 as part of efforts to defend the Texas Hill Country. While the fort predates the most active period of the Buffalo Soldiers, African American regiments later served in the surrounding region and are now honored through living history programs. Today, events such as Frontier Fest include demonstrations by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Buffalo Soldiers Program, connecting the past to modern public education.
