Housed in one of the oldest buildings in historic Downtown Waxahachie, the 1889 Masonic Temple, the Ellis County Museum shares the stories of Waxahachie, Ellis County, and its residents through visual and interactive displays with over 130 years of history!

A fine example of a late 19th century commercial structure - with a cast iron store front, double hung wood windows, brick detail, and elaborate cornice - the first floor with large glazed openings was rented to retail stores, the second occupied by professional offices, and the third used as a Masonic lodge hall until 1926, when the lodge moved. (Note the Masonic symbols that still decorate the tin cornice above the third floor.)

Today, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
