Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site
This humble home is the birthplace of the 34th US President: Dwight “Ike” Eisenhower. Born in 1890 in a bedroom of this house, Eisenhower’s family moved to Kansas 18 months after his birth. He returned to Texas 23 years later as an Army second lieutenant stationed with the infantry at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.
Shortly after the entry of the United States into the First World War, Eisenhower was promoted to captain in May 1917. Ike would spend the war training soldiers in the United States in places like Leon Springs that others would lead in Europe, much to his bitter disappointment. Twenty-five years later, he would be the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe during World War II.
His birthplace is now a museum where antique furnishings depict the working class life of the Eisenhower family.
