Travis Dickey opened Dickey’s Barbecue Pit in 1941 in Dallas, and it has been owned and operated by the Dickey family ever since. The original location on Henderson Avenue (North Central Expressway) is the oldest, continuously operating restaurant in Dallas that has never once changed locations, names or ownership. Dickey’s locations are the purveyors of what they call “Legit Texas Barbecue” and have been selling it to guests for over 80 years.
Now in its third generation of family ownership, the Dickey family have expanded the business into 44 states and nine other countries.
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit was designated a Texas Treasure Business in 2022.
