DeWese's Tip Top Cafe
Linda DeWese is the third-generation owner of one of Texas’ oldest family-owned restaurants. Her grandparents, Winnie and Pappy DeWese, founded the cafe in 1938, and the family has served San Antonio with homestyle plates ever since. Some of their specialties include award-winning fried onion rings, chicken-fried steak, and homemade ice box pies. The knotty pine walls, which are reminiscent of the original building, are decorated with game caught by the DeWese family. Today, the cafe prides itself on serving everyone from mayors to mechanics, and many of the loyal customers are said to remember a time when their grandparents ordered them their first plate. In 2008, the cafe was featured in Guy Fieri’s “Drive-Ins, Diners, and Dives” and later served as a photoshoot location for NBA Champion, Tim Duncan.
