Denton Civic Complex and Quakertown Park
The Civic Complex now encompasses City Hall, the Library, and Civic Center — all designed by O’Neil Ford, with signature arts and crafts integrated into each structure. The park acts as a center for contemporary municipal life.
The 1967 Denton City Hall and the entire Denton Civic Complex represent a significant contrast to the County Courthouse design. Instead of sitting in the middle of a square, the City Hall—as designed by O’Neil Ford—surrounds a tranquil courtyard, creating a more casual and intimate civic space. Ford intended this effect to differentiate it from the formality of the past era.
Go inside the building to see Ford’s use of natural elements such as the beautifully carved doors.
Quakertown Park, bounded by Withers, Oakland, and Bell Streets
The historical marker just west of the Civic Center tells the story of Quakertown’s African American residents who were unfairly evicted from their homes in the 1920s to make room for a city park.
