Coryell County Courthouse
Brazos Trail Region
620 E Main St.
Gatesville, TX 76528
The Coryell County Courhouse in Gatesville was completed in 1897, and is the third such building to serve its citizens. The architect, W.C. Dodson, designed the building in the Second Empire Victorian style and constructed it from limestone and sandstone.
Limestone and red sandstone blocks were precut to the exact size at quarry, then hauled here by horse-drawn wagons. At each entrance are columns in Roman Corinthian style, and over the east entrance is builder's mark of an owl. The statues on the roof represent "Justice." Noted trials have been held in this building.
