Hanging from the walls of this room are scenes from some of the most important moments during the Texas Revolution.

In 1986, the San Jacinto Museum commissioned Charles Shaw, an Austin-based artist known for his depictions of Texas frontier life and history, to create a series of paintings about the Texas Revolution. Over the next four years, Shaw painted thirty-six scenes showing key moments from the revolution and the San Jacinto Campaign.

These paintings feature prominently in Texas Forever!! The Battle of San Jacinto, the thirty-five-minute multimedia presentation here on site, which tells the story of Texas from Spanish colonization all the way to victory at San Jacinto. In 1991, Texas Forever!! won a Gold Award in the Michael A. Wilder Publication Design Awards Competition from the Texas Association of Museums. Watch it on the hour from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Jesse H. Jones Theatre for Texas Studies in the San Jacinto Monument.

Twenty-one of Shaw’s paintings are on display here, and all thirty-six can be viewed in the online exhibit.
