Nestled in the Lost Pines of Central Texas, Bastrop State Park is in a region where the Old Spanish Trail and El Camino Real de los Tejas were primary routes. For the Buffalo Soldiers, these roads were vital transportation arteries. They used these trails to travel between posts, escort supply wagons and civilians, or to head toward major hubs like San Antonio when traveling on leave or returning home after their enlistment. Today, visitors can explore the unique loblolly pine forest and the historic structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The park offers a swimming pool, scenic overlooks, and over 12 miles of hiking and biking trails.
