Bandera General Store
Built in 1921 as the old Cox Dance Hall, the Bandera General Store is a visual time capsule. The floors and ceilings are original, and eagle-eyed visitors can still see the seat numbers on the floor from when the dance hall was later converted into Bandera's first movie theater, The Bantex. In addition to western wear, quirky antiques, local delicacies, and more, the General Store is also home to a genuine 1950s soda fountain.
The basement of the store has long been a home to Bandera's music scene. When the building first opened, the basement was home to a nightclub called The Fox Hole. Later, in 1968, the hall was purchased by singer Arkey Blue and became the world-famous Silver Dollar Saloon and Dance Hall, hosting musical acts like Robert Earl Keen, Willie Nelson, Charlie Robison, Johnny Bush, and Jay Hooker.
