Art Museum of South Texas
Corpus Christi's museum district boasts the Art Museum of South Texas, a striking modernistic edifice. The museum’s 1,100-piece permanent collection depicts classical to modern art, emphasizing works from Texas, Mexico and the United States. The museum serves as the cultural center for the fine arts in Corpus Christi. The facility includes classrooms, studios, a library, work areas, galleries, a gift shop, an auditorium, and interactive children’s playroom. In 1997 the Art Museum of South Texas, Creative Arts Center, and Center for Hispanic Arts joined together to create the South Texas Institute for the Arts (STIA) which offers various exhibition and educational programs which echo the rich multicultural customs of the area.
