Across the Street Diner
Founded in 1905 as Hashop's Pharmacy and Soda Fountain, this diner is one of Texas' oldest continuously operating soda fountains. Renamed to Across the Street Diner after being purchased by a local who had previously owned a salon 'across the street', the diner has kept its original floors and stools, and maintains a few historic treasures on the diner menu, including Hashop’s roast beef sandwiches on toast, and Hashop's grilled cheese, with their homemade pimento cheese.
Fun fact: Wolf Brand Chili was first sold out of a wagon by Lyman T Davis in the 1890s at the street corner where the diner now sits. Today, a bronze wolf commemorates the spot where Davis' famous chili was once sold for five cents a bowl.
