Originally named Peck, Tomball was renamed in 1907 in honor of Thomas Henry Ball. Tomball became a boomtown in 1933 when oil was discovered, and was known as "Oil Town USA".
Today, Tomball has the Tomball Museum Complex created by the Spring Creek County Historical Association, the Kleb Woods Nature Preserve & Center, the Railroad Depot Museum, a busy downtown district, the Tomball Farmers Market, and many annual events.
