The Colony is known as the City by the Lake since it is built around Lake Lewisville. The Colony was part of the historic Peters colony that covered a large portion of Noth Texas and that is where it gets its name. The town was incorporated in 1973 and has been growing ever since.

Today it is popular for its beautiful view of Lake Lewisville and an amazing entertainment scene for all ages. In addition to the entertainment district, there are a variety of outdoor and sporting opportunities. It is a great place to visit to play and take in the natural environment.
