The community of Sinton, San Patricio County seat, provided a shipping point for agricultural goods and cattle courtesy of four different railway companies, all of them instrumental in promoting growth in the region through the early decades of the 20^th century – the Southern Pacific Railroad, the Missouri Pacific Railroad, the San Antonio & Aransas Pass Railway, and the St. Louis, Brownsville & Mexico Railway. The discovery of oil nearby in 1935 helped further advance the community as Sinton became headquarters for the Plymouth Oil Company and home to the Plymouth Oilers, the company-sponsored baseball team and first Texas team national champions of the semi-pro baseball league. Plymouth Oilers’ baseballs, autographed by team members, are part of the collection of historic artifacts at the Sinton Texas Historical Museum. Elsewhere in town the 1909 Odem Building has survived hurricanes and a devastating fire over the decades and represents a fine example of Beaux Arts architectural design. As county seat, Sinton has also hosted all eight of the San Patricio County courthouses, the latest completed in 1928 and designed by Henry T. Phelps in the Classical Revival style.
