“Pflugerville” is an oddly spelled name for a community unless your roots lie in the Hill Country’s influx of German immigrants who arrived in the mid-1800s. Then you’ve got Henry Pfluger Sr. to thank. Pfluger, along with other German settlers, established the settlement that would evolve into the burgeoning community visitors see today, considered one of the fastest growing communities in the state. Modern-day Pflugerville hosts special and annual events like the “Pfirecracker Pfestival” (on Fourth of July weekend, of course), the “Pfall Chili Pfest” – an annual chili cook-off, the winter holiday-inspired “Pfestive Pfarmers Market”, and the monthly “Yappy Hour”, a “pfundraiser” at Pflugerville’s Rogness Brewery on behalf of the local no-kill animal shelter. Pflugerville’s own craft brewery Rogness introduced their special handcrafted brews in 2012 and their taproom is open to visitors Fridays and Saturdays. Elsewhere in town, the Heritage House Museum is open to the public on the first Sunday of each month where visitors may learn all about the history of Pflugerville. Nearby, Lake Pflugerville offers outdoor activities like fishing, swimming, and boating (no power boats) along with three miles of jogging trails, a pavilion, and beach area. Sounds like “pfun”!
