New Boston is the county seat in Bowie County and was named after an early store keeper, W.J. Boston. New Boston is on U.S. Highway 82 and the Missouri Pacific Railroad twenty-one miles west of Texarkana in the central part of Bowie County. Bowie County lies in extreme northeastern Texas between the Red River and Sulphur River. The County was named for James Bowie, Alamo hero, knife-fighter, rancher and adventurer. Another Texas Revolutionary figure, Ben Milam, set his first Texas store in New Boston.

New Boston has wonderful amenities inside and outside the town. Lake Wright Patman and Atlanta State Park are only a short distance with all sorts of family entertainment. Some of the many local events are the Hwy 82/287 Yard Sale, Freedom Fest Celebration & Fireworks, Pioneer Days & Rodeo Festival, Fall Family Night in the Park, Christmas Parade and Christmas Tree Wonderland, all downtown at the T & P Trailhead Park Pavilion and Festival grounds.
