KABOOM TOWN!

Located just thirteen miles north of downtown Dallas, this Texas Lakes Trail city offers the best of both worlds – big city amenities and the ambience of small town Texas. Officially established in 1904 (although its earlier permutation, called “Noel Junction”, had already been around for about twenty years), Addison has since managed to promote urban growth while maintaining its rural charm. Early on, Addison provided its residents a way to commute to nearby Dallas via the “Plug”, a small Cotton Belt train consisting of an engine, a coal tender, and a passenger car. From 1903 to 1917, citizens hitched a ride on the Plug and traveled a spur of the St. Louis Southwestern to Dallas for an afternoon of big city shopping. Today, Addisonians enjoy their own world-class shopping inside the Dallas Galleria, arts and entertainment at the WaterTower Theatre, and a sense of national pride in its extensive collection of vintage military aircraft housed at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum. The museum offers a thorough interpretation, via artwork and artifacts, of aviation during the war years from World War l to Vietnam. The museum also sponsors the Warbird Flyover, part of a spectacular airshow accompanied by one of the top fireworks displays in the country. The event, known as Kaboom Town! occurs every July at Addison Circle Park but the explosive performance can be seen from just about anywhere in Addison.
