In 1909, when local developers learned the Santa Fe Railroad would come through this part of Hale County, buildings were moved from the fledgling town of Bartonsite to Abernathy, including a two-story yellow hotel, a lumberyard, a blacksmith shop, and three or four residences. Today this town, with its historic Struve mercantile buildings lining a brightly colored Main Street, features boutiques and restaurants, as well as a Jamboree street festival every second Saturday.
