Texans have seen their share of the battlefield.

The Mexican War for Independence, the Texas Revolution, the Civil War, the U.S.-Mexico War, two World Wars, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, the wars in the Middle East, even the Cold War; all have left their mark on the men and women of Texas.

Come and Take It!

We commemorate their courage and sacrifice with monuments and museums throughout the state. From the preservation of the Alamo to the Wounded Warriors project, we honor our victors as well as our fallen. We also indulge our compact with warcraft-the planes, ships, tanks, armor, guns, bombs, drones, and ammunition that comprise the tools of war. The USS Lexington, the aircraft Nose Art collection at the Commemorative Air Force Museum, and the National Museum of the Pacific War are but a few in a long list of institutions dedicated to exploring and explaining the consequences of confronting enemies on the battlefield. They also provide an important reminder of what happens when we go to war. World War ll veterans, members of the "Greatest Generation," remind us of the why.
