"Howdy, Folks!" It's Time for the State Fair of Texas
Few events capture the heart and soul of Texans quite like the State Fair of Texas. For over a century, people have flocked to Fair Park in Dallas to experience the magic of this one-of-a-kind celebration. With its rich history, deep cultural significance, and festive pageantry, the Fair is more than just a collection of midway rides, corn dogs, and concerts—it’s a cherished annual tradition and a piece of Texas heritage.

It Ain't Braggin' If It's True!
Spanning an impressive 24 consecutive days, the State Fair of Texas holds the title as the nation’s longest-running fair—and it’s also one of the biggest!
Humble Beginnings
The story of the Texas State Fair begins in 1886, when it first opened its gates to eager fairgoers. Originally a livestock exposition and agricultural showcase, the Fair has grown into one of the largest state fairs in the country, drawing millions of visitors each year. As you walk through the sprawling grounds of Fair Park, designated a National Historic Landmark for its Art Deco architecture, it’s easy to feel that button-busting Texas pride welling up inside you. Pearl snap buttons, of course.
Rooted in Agriculture
One of the real stars of the Fair is its deep roots in Texas agriculture. Livestock competitions are still the heart and soul of the event, with ranchers hauling in their finest cattle, horses, pigs, and more. And don’t miss the students proudly showing off their prize-winning animals! It’s a reminder that behind all the fun and fried food, Texas is built on good old fashioned hard work and dedication.
Plan Your Next Texas Road Trip
Another State Fair mainstay is the opportunity for visitors to plan their next Texas trip. Located in the GO TEXAN/Food and Fiber pavilion, the Texas Heritage Trails Program hosts the only travel information booth at the Fair. Feel free to stop by, ask questions, and pick up brochures to help plan your next trip to explore Texas' rich history, heritage, and culture. The booth is open 7 days a week during the Fair (Sunday-Thursday 10:00am – 8:00pm and Friday-Saturday 10:00am- 9:00pm).
For generations, the Texas State Fair has been a place where history meets fun. Whether you’re cheering on a pig race, indulging in a funnel cake, or simply soaking in the atmosphere, there’s something magical about the Texas State Fair that keeps Texans coming back year after year. See you at the Fair!
