Texas Navy Day: A Celebration of Texas Maritime Heritage

The Texas Maritime Museum presents its Annual Texas Navy Day celebration Sep 21, 11am - 3pm. A prestigious event dedicated to honoring the historical significance of the Texian Navy, sponsored by Humanities Texas and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Join us on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Texas Maritime Museum, located at 1202 Navigation Circle, Rockport, TX, for a day of education, exploration, and celebration for all ages.
Texas Navy Day, officially recognized by the Texas Legislature as the third Saturday of September serves to commemorate the essential role of the Texian Navy in safeguarding Texas’ coastline and maritime interests. This year’s event promises an engaging experience for all ages with a variety of activities, including hands-on interactions, historic artifacts, tastings of traditional maritime recipes including hard tack and grog, and insightful lectures from a distinguished lineup of speakers including:
Admiral Michael Bailey, a retired historian with extensive experience in historical preservation, will share insights into the History of the Texas Navy.
Pam Stranahan, a renowned archaeologist and historian, will present on the topic of Zavala: The Steamship in the Second Texas Navy.
Chris Kneupper, a retired engineer and avocational archaeologist, will speak about the Ports at the Mouth of the Brazos.
For those unable to attend in person, the event will be live-streamed, reaching an anticipated audience of nearly 2,000 remote participants. The Texas Maritime Museum is committed to making this celebration accessible to maritime history enthusiasts across the state and beyond.
