Presidential Papers: A White Glove Event
July 28, 2023
The Ice House Museum is the repository of an outstanding collection of historical and presidential documents. These documents include 50 original letters and documents from President Lyndon Johnson to David Read of Silsbee in areas of national importance, including the assignation of President John F. Kennedy. In addition, the museum has archived Texas Senate letters from 1888, 1824 letters from Congress mentioning Daniel Webster, 1000 original documents of John Henry Kirby, and two letters from Nathaniel Silsbee. Our prize for the evening is an ORIGINAL 1863 engraving of the Emancipation Proclamation that was printed when Abraham Lincoln was still alive! We also have an original receipt from 1864 of the purchase of a slave family in New Orleans.
For this amazing opportunity, you will be provided a pair of white gloves and will be afforded the rare opportunity to examine these documents with the museum curator, the archivist and museum
