Volunteer trash pickup and behind-the-scenes tour of new interpretive platforms (with free tote bag/backpack, water, and snacks!). Includes time to learn about the battle and ecology of the area. Meet 16 miles east of Brownsville on State Hwy 4 (Boca Chica Blvd), near the battlefield monument. Participants are encouraged to proceed to Palo Alto Battlefield NHP to learn more about the U.S. Mexican War, 1846-1848 through their living history program which runs from 10-Noon. Come experience a day of battlefields! At Palmito Ranch Battlefield NHL, the THC’s new state historic site, and FWS’ new observation platform, a volunteer trash pickup and behind-the-scenes tour will take place. Volunteers will receive a free water bottle (while supplies last). At Palo Alto Battlefield NHP, you can visit the sites of the opening battles of the U.S.-Mexican War and learn about the war. This outdoor event is sponsored by the American Battlefield Trust, Texas Historical Commission, National Park Service, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge.
