Lubbock Lake Landmark Celebration Week
July 18, 2023 to July 22, 2023
Every day, Tuesday through Saturday, July 18-22, 2023
The Lubbock Lake Landmark will host Celebration Week July 18-22. The week gives the community an opportunity to learn about the research underway at the Landmark and celebrates 50 years of continuous field research at the site and public programming.
Guided tours are set for 9-10:30 a.m. and 10:30-Noon each day. The tours will walk past an active excavation site as well as other research areas. A Native American storyteller along with demonstrations of pottery making; horseshoeing and branding; and stone tool making demonstrations will also be part of the celebration. The Dawn of Time 5K fun run will be held at dawn (6:30 a.m.) Saturday, June 22, and will take runners and walkers through the restored prairie lands at the Landmark.
Work at the Landmark has revealed consistent human habitation going back 12,000 years, making it a historically significant site. No other North American site has a continuous record of humans at one site stretching back that far.
The Landmark is located just north of North Loop 289 and Clovis Highway (US 84), directly west of the Berl Huffman Athletic Complex. Public parking is free. For more information, call (806) 742-1116.
