Join the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History on October 12, 2024, for the 19th annual Boonville Days: Texas Heritage Festival!
To kick off the festival, runners and walkers of all ages are welcome to join in the 15th Annual Buffalo Stampede Half Marathon & 5K Race at 7:30 am starting at the Brazos Center.
After the race, the entire family can enjoy other fun activities highlighting Texas History at this free heritage festival!
From 9 am - 4 pm learn about Brazos County’s pioneer history: visit with characters in period costume, enjoy cowboys, reenactors, musicians, dancers, artisans, and much more.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to observe demonstrations of frontier skills and trades including flint-knapping, spinning, weaving, quilting, and blacksmithing.
This is a family-friendly event, so there will be free pony rides, train rides, and other activities for children. The Museum will be open free with more exhibits, activities, and demonstrators inside!
Chuck Wagon Lunches
Don't miss the Festival's delicious Chuck Wagon Lunches. Enjoy cowboy cookin’ in style by the best! Teams will cook on site with authentic Chuck Wagons!
Wagon teams will set up in the Brazos Center Park area Friday afternoon (October 11) and will cook the hearty cowboy lunches on site Saturday morning.
The lunches are big, so children can share a plate. Meals are only served from 12-1 on October 12th.
Museum and Exhibits
In addition to all the demonstrations of pioneer history and fun children's games, crafts, and other activities, families can view a variety of live animals, and browse through the Museum's Discovery Room, library, and exhibition gallery. Visitors can also explore the Museum's Texas History display and the current special exhibit: Steam, Smoke & Steel: Riding the Rails through Time, on display through October 26.
Boonville Heritage Park
Like historic buildings? Don't miss a chance to see inside the restored and furnished 19th c. dogtrot cabin, replica buildings of the Boonville Court House, a smokehouse, the Masonic lodge, educational activities, booths, and other re-enactors at Boonville Heritage Park! Learn about the fascinating history of the town of Boonville, the original Brazos County seat.
Staff will be on hand to share stories about the park and the colorful history of the town of Boonville, the original Brazos County seat.
